Hey there, Steamy Peeps!
I know, I know, you have probably forgotten who I am, being that I have basically been a total nonentity around here lately.
Most of you are probably like, you have been? Followed by:
But for those two who care and/or that noticed…here’s the 411…
I have a LOT going on at home right now that is demanding my attention…and kind of killing my desire to read and review at the moment, quite frankly.
That said, the purpose of this post isn’t to seek any sympathy or attention – I am a VERY practical person who has dealt with a lot of tragedy in my life – at this point, I kind of just accept and deal with bad things as par for the course and I take in all in stride, honestly…as cynical as that sounds.
I am throwing this…disclaimer in here because I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to garner sympathy and I am NOT looking for advice or “things will get better platitudes…”
I am FINE. Promise! We are ALL dealing with this thing called life and I know that there are people out there -maybe even YOU – who are dealing or have dealt with much worse shit than me. So it’s all good.
I am seriously just letting ya’ll know what’s up in Val Land…and if I make you laugh along the way?
So number one, my Aunt L died the Sunday before last. She had been very ill with lung cancer after being diagnosed last year and she finally succumbed, sadly.
I have a very tight, close-knit family, and it’s hitting some members pretty hard, particularly my grandmother – who already lost another daughter (my mother) in 1995.
Needless to say, it’s been pretty rough for her to lose another child.
And – as if life wasn’t cheery enough for her – the very day after my Aunt’s passing, Grandma suddenly couldn’t SEE. She says, “Why is it so foggy in here?” And we are like, “Wut wut?”
Anyway, after rushing her to the ER, they discover she has detached retinas…and required surgery the next day.
Because why not add sudden blindness to being completely grief-stricken, amiright?
Two days after THAT my diabetic, pace-maker garbed father is rushed to urgent care with heart problems…because – despite being diabetic, overweight, and experiencing constant symptoms as a result of all that – he STILL refuses to put down the Haagen Daaz.
…and THEN I get rear-ended on my way home from sister’s house because the 20-something year old Instagrammer behind me decided she wanted to play bumper cars with actual cars.
Now – side note – I JUST got a new car in December 2016.
And this is my SECOND accident in it.
For realz. In January, I got t-boned in a parking lot.
Needless to say, when the cars in front of me suddenly stopped and I suddenly stopped – I looked in my rear view mirror and literally said out loud in monotone to myself, “She’s not going to stop.”
And – as per usual – I was right.
Luckily, everyone was fine.
Text-girl was insured, proving there really IS a God.
And – most importantly – my car was finally dubbed with a fitting name.
I think I mentioned this in a previous post, but I am one of those people who names my cars.
But they have to come about…organically.
And I was having trouble coming up with one for this one.
Right after this accident, however, Sir Handyman and I have this conversation:
SH: “So I have a good name for your car.”
Me: “Oh yeah? Do tell.”
Well done, Sir Handyman, well done.
I dub thee Bullseye, you crashed to shit cracker box.
To conclude all the crappy shit, my Grandma is doing okay.
She is handling herself like the truly graceful and rockin’ Jackie O that she is.
Her surgery was successful and the doctors say her vision will be fine.
My dad is now resting at home waiting for some test results…
…and probably halfway through a pint of chocolate chip.
And as for my own feelings about my Aunt…I am happy she is no longer suffering, I know she is chillin’ upstairs with my mom, and I figure she had a pretty fun life.
And – upside – I had yet to fix the damage to my car from the first accident because we will be out of town for a couple weeks coming up and I was waiting to have it done while we were gone.
Meaning I hadn’t JUST had my car fixed only to have it go back in again.
So both sites of damage will be fixed when it goes into the shop next week…while Sir Handyman and I are ON VACATION FOR THREE WEEKS, woot woot!
Thus, outside of dealing with the family stuff, I have been getting ready for our vacation.
In fact, I am so excited about it that it’s pretty much all that I think about lately.
Pair that with my newfound infatuation with Die Antwoord (which I discovered as a result of THIS book) and I am pretty much wired all the time and unable to sleep.
For serious though, if you haven’t heard of Die Antwoord, STOP.
They are crazy and trashy and offensive and completely ridiculous.
And I am neck deep in the rabbit hole that is them.
But anycray, there you have it.
My life lately in a nutshell.
As I said, I am REALLY looking forward to my vacation.
But before I go, I will be reading and review the Damnable Grace ARC, so look out for that if you are interested.
Other than that, I hope you are all doing well <333
