Amie Knight is one of my favourite authors and I will always drop absolutely everything and read one of her masterpieces. I have been a huge fan of Amie’s ever since I first discovered her amazing ability to capture my heart with her powerful and poignant storytelling in The Line and I have been hooked on her stories ever since. The Red Zone was by no means an exception, if anything, I think this may be her best work yet, and that is saying a lot considering I love absolutely everything she has ever produced. If you are yet to discover Amie and her gift of writing, then I urge you to change that, because this is one author whose beautiful words deserve to be shared with the world.
Lukas Callihan is living his dreams and living them large. He’s playing NFL in the elite competition and is set to play in the Super Bowl and win the well deserved ring. His life couldn’t be anymore perfect, his team in Florida is having an amazing season and he has the love and support of his Mom and little sister Ella. Tragedy strikes Luk when he receives the worst phone call of his life, from his aunt. He has no option but to give up his amazing career and his super bowl ring, for a mediocre team back home in Alabama, to look after his sister who is the absolute world to him.
“I’d never give her up. I’d swim and drown. I’d jump and I’d fall. I’d try and I’d fail. But I’d just keep going. For her. Because Ella was my everything even when I felt like I had nothing.”
Scarlett Knox is a teacher of special needs students and absolutely adores her job and her students are everything to her. I could not possibly think any more highly of Scarlett, she is a genuine, sweet and caring person, who can certainly hold her own against the best of them given the right situation. One of Scarlett’s students is Ella, sister to Lukas, someone she knew from high school. Scarlett had the privilege of tutoring the star football player in French during his senior year. There is an age gap between the two, so when the school year was up Lukas moved on to bigger and better things, leaving Scarlett and their unlikely friendship behind, while taking her heart with him.
“The fourteen-year-old me wanted to chase him out of that room and beg him to be friends with me again. Anything. Because those months had been the best. Luk had been the best. Until he hadn’t.”
I absolutely loved everything about Luk and Scarlett’s relationship; while Luk may not have always felt he was doing the best job in the world caring for his sister Ella, Scarlett was there to help, guide, support Luk and pick him up where he needed it. I believe the best relationships in the world are built around mutual respect and admiration and Luk and Scarlett had that in spades. Their attraction and chemistry towards each other was palpable, electrifying and they were complete magnets for each other.
The Red Zone was just pure magic and I was addicted to this emotional, heart aching and heart healing story from start to finish. Amie Knight has once again crafted a beautifully written and engaging story that I adored, she is a true talent who writes from the heart and every beautifully written word I feel deep within. The Red Zone is a story about overcoming adversity and while you may have to give up your dreams due to the curve ball life has thrown you, another dream may begin. Fate works in mysterious ways and I believe everything happens for a reason, while tragic and sad, life can begin again with the right person by your side. I can not recommend this story enough, especially to those sports romance lovers who also adore emotional and poignant stories that have the ability to not only break your heart but also put the pieces back together again. Definitely one click this treasure.
