She’s the only one who ever loved him—and the only one he can never have.

Jude lost everything one spring day when he crashed his car into an apple tree on the side of the road. A man is dead, and there's no way he can ever right that wrong. He’d steer clear of Colebury, Vermont forever if he could. But an ex-con in recovery for his drug addiction can’t find a job just anywhere.

For Sophie Haines, coming face to face with the man who broke her heart is gut-wrenching. Suddenly, he’s everywhere she turns. It’s hard not to stare at how much he’s changed. The bad boy who used to love her didn’t have big biceps and sun-kissed hair. And he’d never turn up volunteer in the church kitchen.

She knows it’s foolish to yearn for the man who returned all the heartsick letters she wrote him in prison. But the looks he sends her now speak volumes.

It’s 2 in the morning, and I’m trying to type this review without falling asleep. I’m doing it now because I know I’ll be too lazy to type it later since I’ll be too busy entranced in another book! I’ll try to keep this short or whatever. So if there’s typos, my bad! If I start to make no sense, my bad! If I start to get boring, MY BAD!!!! Moving on…

If you read the first book in the series, then you know who Jude Nickel is. If you haven’t, that’s okay, this can be read as a standalone. Jude was working at the Shipley farm, and since there was no more work to be done, he has no other option than to return back home to Colebury, the place that reeks of all his old mistakes and desires.

“In the minus column, I was now a convicted felon. I’d served thirty-six months for possession and vehicular manslaughter. I had very little money and even fewer friends.”

Being there is a huge struggle for Jude. There were plenty of times Jude could have gone and bought drugs when he started getting cravings, but he didn’t! It wasn’t easy, yet he managed to stay away. And for that, I admired the hell out of him. I wanted to pull him out of the book and just give him a huge hug! My heart broke for him.

Not only does he plan to stay away from the drugs, he also plans to keep his distance from the love of his life, Sophie, since she’s still living in Colebury. Out of all the things he lost, losing Sophie was the worst.

That girl is such a strong heroine! She’s supportive and has a kind heart. She could have blamed Jude for everything that happened, but she didn’t. And she loved Jude unconditionally through it all.

“An addiction is when you can’t keep away from something that’s bad for you. Maybe Jude was a drug addict, but I was a Jude addict.”

These two were amazing together. You could feel the love they had for each other coming off the pages. I loved every second of it. Steadfast is an emotional read with some angst added to it! It’s also a second chance romance, and well, HELLLOOOO; those are my favorite!! God, this book gives all the feels! I recommend it to all of you.

That’s all I have for you, folks! Now I’ll just be here, impatiently waiting for Zach’s book to come out!
