“Well, I’ve heard some of the best adventures come from finding yourself a little lost.”
Kandi Steiner is one of my all time favourite authors and when you mix that with a small town, angsty slow burning romance, I am guaranteed to love it. Kandi’s writing is always flawless with her well thought out plots and her well-developed characters who always take me on a journey that is positively unforgettable. On the Rocks drew me in from the very first word right up until the last. I read this in one sitting and the more I read, the more I wanted to slow down, take a breath and let every beautiful moment this story had to offer sink in.
Ruby Grace Barnett is the daughter of a politician and has been brought up to be perfect in every sense of the world. Ruby Grace’s life is going to plan; every intention she had always sought after has occurred and the direction of her life was heading the way it was meant to be. That is, until she runs into Noah Becker and her life as she knows it turns on its axis.
Noah is the perfect carefree country boy who, along with his three brothers, are known for causing trouble and havoc wherever they go. He is very happily single with his no strings attached hook-ups, but is on the search for something more, someone he can give his heart to and someone he can love for the rest of his life. A trait he learnt from the love his parents shared.
“I never feel more like my real self than I do when I’m with you.”
I adored Noah and Ruby Grace’s relationship and how it developed; from friends to something more. I loved the way Noah challenged Ruby and how he made her question everything she knew up until the day she saw him in the whiskey distillery. The development of Ruby was probably my favourite part of this story; once her layers were pulled back, she morphed into this happy go lucky person and I could literally see the weight of the world lift from her. It takes someone truly special to show you how magical life could be if you just step back and really question what you have been told to believe your whole life and how happy you could actually be.
On the Rocks was the ultimate small-town slow burning romance with the perfect amount of angst. I adored this story and fell in love with these characters and their journey of self-discovery. If you are looking for your next romance to leave you with the biggest smile on your face, then I urge you to one click this gem; it truly is spectacular and you’ll be left with all the feels imaginable.
Perfection! Just Perfection!
I adored this book from Kandi Steiner. Already a huge fan, I devoured this book in a day or two. It had me hooked from the get go.
Whenever I see a book setting in a small town, I know I’m going to be reading that book. But when Kandi announced that her next series would be set in a small town, I have to admit I may have had a little fan girl moment. Not gonna lie!! I loved everything about this book, that small town feeling was there but we also got the angst, great characters and the chemistry between our main characters was certainly there.
Ruby Grace was definitely a character that I warmed to as I read more of the story. When I first meet her. I was a little annoyed at her antic’s, but I warmed to her, once I realised that she is prepared to put her family before her own needs and dreams.
Now Noah, he stole me heart and made my knees weak. He is a brooding and dreamy character but has strong family ties. He is everything I look for in a book boyfriend. His need to protect Ruby Grace was what stole my heart. He is a true gentleman!
Together these characters have a rocky relationship, but you can feel the love they have for one another and while they don’t start off on the right foot, they are truly meant for each other. They complement each other beautifully.
Overall, this slow burn small town romance was a great read and one I would recommend to any one looking for a great summer read.
About the Author
Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.
Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).
When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.
