4.5 STARS OF CRINGE
You know when you were little and your Mom or Dad used to cover your eyes with their hand during a movie scene they thought was too violent or too sexual for your young growing psyche to handle? While you tried valiantly – and often successfully – in peeking through their fingers? Well I was my own Mom slapping myself in the face during the majority of this book.
I said “no way” or “what the fuck” out loud to myself so many times, my puggle-dachshund started giving me the you’ve-got-a-fucking-screw-loose-stink-eye.
I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone else so I will keep this brief, but Lily White is wicked smart. Her understanding of human psychology was so riveting, I devoured this in less than 4 hours.
There are already awesome reviews out there on this one and I’m glad I read some before braving it, because I knew to go into it not necessarily expecting an HEA. (I’m not saying there is or isn’t one, I’m just saying I found it helpful for my own sanity not to expect one)
I love me some dark reads, but at the end of the day I am generally a lover of the rainbows and unicorns flying off into the sunset together HEA; however, if you also love the occasional psychological mind fuck as I do, don’t miss this one.
Just make sure to pull up your big girl panties before you start.
