“Trauma creates change you don’t choose.
Healing is about creating change you do choose.”
Wow! What an absolutely epic tale. Heartbreak Warfare was such an emotionally charged story filled with so much intensity, depth and utter turmoil. Whilst I did find this story hard to read at times and it absolutely made me ugly cry, I just could not get enough of this incredible story that moved me and brought up so many feelings and emotions that I can’t even remember the last book I have read that has had such a profound impact on me in this way. I know no review I write will do justice to how brilliant this story really is. I have always loved Kate Stewart’s stories as she has this ability in her writing to bring out every emotion in me. This is my first book by Heather M. Orgeron and wow, what a dynamic duo these two authors make. I am a definite fan of this collaboration that’s for sure. I know some readers won’t read this due to the triggers and love triangle, but if there is any way you can look past that, then this is the story to try because Heartbreak Warfare deserves to be read by the world.
Katy is a soldier through and through. Her dad was a soldier and being an army brat, that lifestyle was ingrained into her as she grew up. Katy is leaving her husband and son behind to go on tour to Baghdad. Naturally it’s no easy task for her to leave her family behind, but it is her job and after giving her family one last heart-wrenching squeeze, she hops on the bus.
“You were destined to be a part of my life. You’ve changed me. No matter where this journey takes us, when I close my eyes, it will be your face I see. When I breathe my last breath, your name will be on my lips. I need you to know that – for you to know how incredible you really are.”
This story is heart breaking, raw, gritty and real. I felt like I was on this agonizing journey along with these characters and felt every ounce of their pain and turmoil. I just wanted to stop it, but I couldn’t. While I did say at times I found this story hard to read, I’m so glad I kept going because every distressing step and every powerful word was well worth the pain.
The realism of this story was right on point, the research Kate and Heather must have done prior to and during the writing of Heartbreak Warfare really showcases to me the care and precision they took to bring us this masterpiece and to make it right.
“There are only two things in life I’m sure of: my love of this country and my love for you…”
This story will not only break your heart, but it will also heal it. I just can’t get over how much I loved this story, it just flowed so effortlessly and my heart was torn in two and had me questioning everything I believed to be true. The writing is carefully crafted to pure perfection. Heartbreak Warfare is a poignant tale that is simply unforgettable and I highly recommend it be read by the world.
You know, I was warned, I was, yet my heart is under my feet, shattered into many tiny pieces
I knew I’d either loath this story or I’d love it. And I’m gonna say this to all you on the fence on reading this story, take the chance, Do it. Read this. It’s simply fricken beautiful. That’s all I can literally say right now.
I fell in love with three characters. Deeply fell for them and I am still torn right down the middle. This story builds you up, tears you down, shatters you, pieces you together, and makes you love fiercely. I just know that Katy, Gavin, & Briggs, you are all heroes.
