Piper Rayne is an author duo that I have had on my TBR list for such a long time, but like most of us, that list is never ending and finding time to read can sometimes be difficult, but when I say the book cover for Flirting With Fire, I knew that this was the perfect book to introduce me to this amazing writing duo.
This book had me hooked from the prologue, who doesn’t love a childhood crush romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic read. This is the perfect book to start reading from this duo, and it kicks off what I can only imagine is going to be a fantastic series, The Blue Collar Brother series.
From the start of the book, I felt an instant connection with Maddison. As a teen she was the school nerd (and is still a little nerdy as an adult) but she had a huge heart. Plus, a massive crush on the high school jock Mauro Bianco. I think I felt the connection with Maddison due to the insecurities that she developed in high school and carried them into adulthood with her. There’s nothing nice having that feeling of never measuring up to everyone else. While she did have her insecurities, it was her strong spirit that I enjoyed, especially when she was standing up for herself!
Mauro Bianco was your typical high school jock, oblivious to Maddison and her feelings. I wanted to hate him, but I just couldn’t. There’s something about an alpha male that just hits be in the heart, Mauro had a gruffness to him that just melted my insides. Of course, being a firefighter had nothing to do with his raw sexiness (ok, so maybe I have a thing for men who run into a burning building while we are running out of them, there are an everyday hero!). I adored his closeness to his brothers and he knows he makes mistakes and owns up to them.
Maddison and Mauro were so good as opposites who are attracted to each other. Their chemistry could ignite fires, it was at times, too hot to handle (got to throw the puns in when I can). I enjoyed their bickering and feel in love with them as a couple, when they finally gave into their chemistry.
For me, what I really thought was clever is the message that this duo sends to their readers. A message about learning to love and accept ourselves for you we are. Piper Rayne was able to create the perfect balance of fun, romance and sending a serious empowering message. I haven’t read a book like this for a long, long time. Don’t get me wrong, it is a light read, one that you could probably do in one sitting, but these authors were able to cram so much into this book without it being distracting or off putting.
Overall, this is a fantastic read and one that you must pick up or add to your TBR list. I am so happy that I picked this book to pop my Piper Rayne cherry with. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for book with a great storyline, wonderful realistic characters and has plenty of chemistry between the main characters.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series, I’ve already added them to my TBR List!
