I still remember how shocked, yet, fascinated I was years ago, when I finished ‘Willing Victim’, the first installment in the series. All of this author’s books are remarkable well written and intriguing in some way or another, but for me ‘Willing Victim’ will always hold a special place in my heart. Firstly, because it was my first read by this author and secondly, because I came across a genre or more exactly sub-genre, taboo reads, which I came to love very much. This highly anticipated second installment was so different from what I had expected. It was well written and almost as steamy as the first, but more emotional than I thought it will be. It goes without saying Mrs. McKenna did a fantastic job blending the steam and emotion in this second installment.
“He craved a chase. She craved the weight of this beast crashing down on her when he got his way.”
Flynn and Laurel have been together for nine months. Flynn is still working construction, occasionally being an underground fighter. His relationship with Laurel is solid, being accepted 100% by her meaning a lot to him. Laurel is still not scared by Flynn’s need of cruelty and dominance in bed. She still loves the role play, being grateful Flynn accepted her problem with depression.
Everything changes when Flynn and Laurel, forced by unexpected circumstances have to take some important decisions, as individuals and also as a couple.
“Why are you with me?” she asked, careful to sound curious and not defensive.
His answer came at once. “The way you make me feel.”
While this second installment wasn’t exactly what I had expected, I really enjoyed it. I love this author’s writing style and storytelling, so I knew the sequel will be well written and steamy. And it really was! Mrs. McKenna writes the best sex scenes ever! Trust me on this! You will never be disappointed reading a sex scenes by this author. The sex scenes in this installment were scorching hot, passionate and OMG…they really left me hot and bothered.
Once again, Mrs. McKenna did a fantastic job with Flynn and Laurel’s characters. Their portrayal was really well done and the characters’ growth was simply great. Both Flynn and Laurel were endearing and both of them felt real and relatable. I loved Flynn here as much as I loved him in the first installment. He was sweet, sexy, charming, passionate, thoughtful, considerate and overall, pretty perfect. I liked Laurel too. Her flaws definitely make her feel real. I loved how ballsy and outspoken she was and of course the fact that she was willing to play victim for Flynn, accepting him 100%.
Overall, ‘Brutal Game’ was a great, entertaining conclusion to Flynn and Lauren’s story and I definitely recommend it if you already read ‘Willing Victim’, the first book in the series.
