Tracey’s Review

Beautifully Broken Life, beautifully written!

This review has taken me ages to pen. Like Catherine Cowles did with this book, I wanted to give a review that shows just how beautiful this book is. Catherine Cowles has written a graceful portrayal of two characters who are hiding away from society, but once love takes hold of their hearts their journey together is stunning.

Catherine’s words evoked some many emotions in this story for me. At times I was an emotional wreck to a giddy girl. For a new author like Catherine, with this only being her third book, I would never expect her to have the ability to create so many emotions. Her words are filled with love, emotion and the attention to detail just shows how amazing this author already is. Definitely a must read author for me for what I am sure will be a very long time. Sutter Lake Series is proving to be one of my favourite series.

Beautifully Broken Life follows Tessa and Liam’s journey.

From the first chapter we meet Tessa, our main character, who we quickly learn is on the run from her past. One that was filled with emotionally and physical abuse at the hands of a loved one. Knowing that this relationship will only end up one way, with her dead, Tessa takes a risk and flees. Finding a safe haven, she settles in Sutter Lake.

Enter Liam.

Liam is escaping his hectic life in the music scene, with a bad case of writer’s block he is looking for the peace and quiet that he recently found on his trip to Sutter Lake. Needing this time for himself he heads back to Sutter Lake, where he runs into Tessa and suddenly the words are flowing.

Their relationship was amazing to watch flourish into a something enchanting to read. You could see Tessa grow from this shy and reserved woman into a strong, confident woman who was willing to take a chance on love. Liam was a fantastic hero, he’s kindness and understanding of Tessa’s hesitation showed just how much of a gentleman Liam was. I mean, when he says ‘Don’t dim your light for anyone. Never again’ and ‘You make this life so much more beautiful’ how could you not love this guy? I wanted to reach into my kindle and kiss this man.

I’d also like to say that the covers for this series are by far some of the most beautiful covers I have seen and so perfectly picked for each of the books. For me, a cover is what sells a book first, I know I am drawn to a cover and then the blurb. These covers are perfect!!

Overall, I was truly moved by this story. While a love story, it’s also a story about self-worth and knowing that everyone can experience love, the good and the bad, but knowing that when the good comes along, grab it with both hands and never let go. I enjoyed reading Tessa’s journey, but I loved how Catherine addressed a situation that too many people experience in a relationship. It was done with care and consideration and was written so beautifully. It’s a must read and a book that I can’t stop recommending!!

Catherine Cowles, you are an amazing author. This book captured my heart and has never let go since. Your way with words is a testament to your craft and I can’t wait to see where you take us in this series. Take a bow! You bewitched my heart with your words.

Writer of words. Drinker of Diet Cokes. Lover of all things cute and furry, especially her dog. Catherine has had her nose in a book since the time she could read and finally decided to write down some of her own stories. When she’s not writing she can be found exploring her home state of Oregon, listening to true crime podcasts, or searching for her next book boyfriend.
