The heart is exquisite.
You’ll never hear anyone wax poetic over an organ quite like they do the heart.
When you’re lost in the world? Follow your heart.
When your love for someone is unwavering, unparalleled and unprecedented? You give them your heart.
As a lead pediatric cardiac surgeon, I knew better than anyone that the heart is equally as powerful as it is delicate.
The heart giveth just as easily as it taketh away.
And until the day Kelly Potter darkened my doorway that was all just part of the job.
She rolled in like a slow evening storm, fierce and beautiful, fighting for the life of her unborn child.
It should have been business as usual.
I was a doctor.
Her child the patient.
But Kelly was more.
She was the one who got away.
I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.
It didn’t matter what the rules were.
For once, I was listening to my heart.

Megan’s Review

“The drums give life to music. And the heart, it’s the music of life.”

If there is one author who always has the ability to draw me in with her beautifully poetic writing, that would have to be Amie Knight. I am yet to discover a book by her that I have not absolutely loved and felt every ounce of emotion she inputs into her stories. An Imperfect Heart was different though, it was more, so much more; more emotion, more powerful and a lot of heart.

As any mother can attest, you love your children with all your heart, from conception right up until you take your last breath. A mother’s bond with her child, whether it be in-utero, during childhood or well into adulthood is unbreakable. A mother’s love for her child knows no limits. Kelly really showcased this to me with such fierce determination and strength, the lengths she went through to protect her child was nothing short of inspiring.

Even though Kelly’s pregnancy was somewhat unexpected and it didn’t fit into her plans, her aspirations and the life she dreamed to lead. However, when she discovers her unborn baby has a heart condition, she stops at nothing to try to save her child. Kelly goes searching for the one man she knows can help her; Doc Anthony Jackson, Paediatric cardiologist.

“Yep. Me and baby girl. We’re a team. And we’re gonna do this thing. With or without you, but I hope it’s with you because I hear you’re good and I need someone who can deliver a miracle.”

Anthony was such a kind hearted soul. He agrees to help Kelly and her unborn baby and goes well above and beyond the call of duty in the process. Anthony wasn’t perfect though, he did have some moments where I was taken aback and therefore unsure of him, but overall he was sweet with a heart of pure gold.

The attraction and chemistry between Anthony and Kelly was pretty intense. It was quite evident early on that they really cared about each other and as the book progressed, I felt such a strong connection between the two and was adamant they were meant to be.

An Imperfect Heart was a poignant and emotional story of unconditional love, faith, hope, inner strength and that beautiful gift of a second chance. Amie’s writing, as always, has the ability to leave me breathless with her poetic prose and unforgettable characters. I urge anyone who loves their emotionally driven second chance love stories to read this one because an imperfect heart can be a beautiful too.
