If you are familiar with this author’s work, then you already know how talented she is, how every single one of her stories is unique and refreshing, how every character she writes is endearing and relatable in one way or another. ‘Thief of Hearts’, the fifth installment in this author’s “Hearts” series was by far the best installment in the series. At least in my humble opinion. I loved everything about this story. I simply devoured it! I couldn’t put it down for one minute. It was that gripping! Stu and Andi’s story was fun, sweet, sexy with a bunch of engaging characters, an entertaining story line and a romance that for sure will make you swoon. In other words, the perfect romance for me.
“How could a man’s gaze seem so carnal, as if he was defiling me with just a look? Even worse, why did it both thrill and terrify me?”
Andrea ‘Andie’ Anderson is a twenty-eight years old woman who teaches continuing education courses for adult students at a local college. Once upon a time she used to have it all – a husband, a marriage, a ‘home’, but she lost it all when the one who was supposed to be her ‘forever’ passed away. His death left Andie not only with a broken heart, but also with many bills to pay, the tragic event eventually forcing her to move with her cousin.
“That’s the thing, I want to take advantage of you, Andrea. I want to so badly, in so many ways.”
Stu is an ex-con who is ready to do anything to protect his family. He has a new job, job he doesn’t want to do, but he has to since he wants so desperately to change his life. He has to stay focused, now more than ever, but his life is turn upside down when he enrolls in Andie’s class.
Andie is attracted and intrigued by her newest thirty years old new, infuriating student. His flirting affects her more than she likes to admit, finding his forwardness so very appealing. She feels he’s dangerous…at least for her heart, rejecting his advances numerous times, but Stu is perseverant wanting to show Andie that his interest in her is REAL.
First thing first, you have to know this fifth installment can be read as a standalone. However, I highly recommend reading the other installments as well, especially the previous one, just to have a better understanding of some events and aspects of this story.
I liked the way the story unfolded. A lot, actually. The plot was well developed and the story line engaging and interesting. I liked and appreciated the fact the story wasn’t the typical teacher/student romance. You won’t find those tropes you usually find in this kind of romance either, so be prepared to find, like I mentioned above, a unique and refreshing story. There are many interesting, to say the least, twists and turns as the story unfolds that I found to be so very gripping.
“Everyday you’re deeper under my skin, and I have no cue how deep I’m under yours.”
This story sucked me in from the very beginning. Not only because I found the story line to be entertaining, but also because I was charmed by our hero, Stu Cross, from the very beginning. I loved Stu! He was smart, fun, sweet, thoughtful, complex hero that won me from the start. I loved his personality, how flirty he was at times, the way he made Andie uncomfortable with every opportunity and how he slowly forced her out of her shell. Stu was not only flirty, but a sexy dirty talker as well. Oh, boy…I really loved his dirty mouth.
Andie was a heroine I liked from the start. She was fun, sweet, strong and overall an adorable character I really admired for her optimism and her big heart. I loved her determination as the story progressed to show Stu that he’s worthy, her determination to make him happy as the story unfolded and how she saw the real Stu.
“Even when you’ve given up on yourself, I won’t give up on you…”
I simply loved the romance aspect, how the relationship between the main characters progressed, the banter and tension between them and most of all, their chemistry. Mrs. Cosway always writes great chemistry between her characters, but here she outdid herself with the one between Stu and Andie.
The cast of supporting characters were fantastic as well, well portrayed, endearing and engaging in their own way. I really loved catching up with all the characters from the previous installments in the series and also to meet new ones I’m dying to read about in the next and final installment in the series.
All in all, ‘Thief of Hearts’ was a fabulous addition to the series, with endearing characters, engaging story line and a lovely romance that will warm your heart.
“You shouldn’t always dismiss things before they’ve had a chance to wow you. If you do, you’ll miss everything that’s wonderful in the world.”
