No, ends on a cliffhanger.

Her father is The King of England.

She is The Controversial Princess.

Regarded as down to earth by the press and rebellious by The King, Princess Adeline refuses to bow to the royal expectations her title carries. She knows better than anyone that the united front of the royal family is nothing but smoke and mirrors - lies and secrets masked by power and privilege. She wants no part of it, and she will never surrender to The King’s demand to marry a man she does not love. But despite Adeline’s determination to retain her free will, she remains deeply unfulfilled, feeling caged and suffocated.

That is until she meets Josh Jameson. Drawn in by his confidence, Adeline is soon captivated by the scandalously sexy American actor. His ability to penetrate her defences overwhelms her - his touch is pure fire, and his allure overpowering. Nothing has ever made her feel so alive in a world where she’s otherwise slowly drowning. However, while Josh may be Hollywood royalty, he’s not actual royalty, and Adeline knows The King and his advisors will do everything in their power to keep them apart.

But Josh Jameson becomes the princess’s ultimate vice.

And although she bows to no one, she bows to him.

Tracey’s Review

As a fellow Brit, I am always intrigued by the idea of a Royal romance. Even more so, having recently watching Prince Harry and Megan Markle marry. So, when I had the chance to review Jodi Ellen Malpas, new duet series Smoked and Mirrors, I jumped at the chance. Firstly, I love her This Man series and secondly a Royal romance from Jodi, could only mean a fantastic story is headed our way.

The Controversial Princess didn’t disappoint, in fact I can say that Jesse Ward (hero from This Man Series) has been given a run for his money, which is saying a lot. I devoured this book in one sitting and have re-read since.

I always love the concept of a member of the royal family falling in love with a commoner. What challenges they would face, have always intrigued me. In, The Controversial Princess, we meet Princess Adeline, who faces the tough decision off accepting the life she has been born into, where she is expected to marry the ‘right man’ and produce an heir or be prepared to give everything up for the chance off freedom and the right to choose that man she wants.

Throughout the story you could feel the struggle that Princess Adeline was dealing with. My heart went out to Adeline, she was such free-spirited character that couldn’t bear the royal life and didn’t want to confirm. Her rebellion against her conformities is her enjoyment in man, much to the dislike of The King and PR people, who are always working to keep her indiscretions out of the press, I thoroughly enjoyed Adeline’s rebellion, there is something genuine in the way she fights against the chains that are holding her captive.

Enter Josh Jameson.

Josh Jameson is Hollywood Royalty. He oozes charisma and has the confidence to go for what he wants, and he wants a piece off the Princess. Like I said earlier, Josh gives one off my top 5 book boyfriend a run for his money. He has that Southern charm giving the ability to charm anyone and everyone out of their panties. All expect The Princess of England, Adeline. Josh Jameson made my heart flutter and gave me that weak at the knees feeling. His character gave us the perfect mixture of dominance and romance.

When their attractions comes to ahead, there is nothing anyone can do. The heart wants what the heart wants, the only issue is whether Josh and Adeline are prepared to give everything up.

Of course, as this is the first book in the duet, I was expecting a cliff-hanger. Jodi certainly out did herself with this ending. I haven’t had a book hangover in a very, very long time and this book left me hungover for days. I can’t wait to read the conclusion to Adeline and Josh’s relationship, I am sure it will be one hell off a rollercoaster.

About the Author:

Jodi Ellen Malpas wrote her debut series, The This Man Trilogy, in secret, worried about what people might think if they knew what her imagination was capable of. She was shocked herself.
