Only love can heal an impossibly broken heart

There’d forever been a thread running through Trevor Estes’s life—his son, Riley, strong and constant like a heartbeat. But when Riley is killed in combat, everything in Trevor’s life unravels into a mess he doesn’t know how to mourn.

Then Jesse Byrne, Riley’s friend and platoon mate, arrives on Trevor’s doorstep with a box of Riley’s things. Jesse’s all-too-familiar grief provides an unlikely source of comfort for Trevor: knowing he’s not alone is exactly what he needs.

Trevor never imagined he’d find someone who fills his heart with hope again. As the pair celebrate Riley’s memory, their unique bond deepens into something irreplaceable—and something neither man can live without.

But diving into a relationship can’t be so simple. Being together means Trevor risking the last link he has to his son…leaving Jesse to wonder if he’ll ever be enough, or if Trevor will always be haunted by the past.

Jenny’s Review

When I saw the info on this book, I was like oh god I have to check this one out. Then I saw some spectacular reviews from of my GR friends and I was like, get me that book, NOW! Thankfully I got this book and man did I devour it.

Let me start by saying, this book, this fricken book wrecked havoc on my heart

I absolutely 100% am in love with this book. I cried, I cringed, I loved, I sobbed, and gosh dang I drooled over Jesse & Trevor, and Riley too.

We’re introduced to Trevor, as we walk through the journey of sending his only child, only son off to fight in the war. Trevor was a teen dad, a gay teen dad from a drunken/drugged up night. He was a single dad raising his son, and what an amazing job he did. I fell in love watching how he was with Riley and I adored Riley, he was a story all in his own. Trevor’s journey didn’t end with sending his son off to war, no it was just beginning, I am saying this lightly.

Jesse, this strong individual, not only as the story progresses are we given more to how he grew up, what made him the loving, caring man that he became but how he became the most giving and amazing man. Although he somewhat hides who he really is from his army brothers, for the sake of being able to fight for his country and find his acceptance, he hides that he is gay from his friends. Until a mid tour vacation he takes a trip with Riley and Riley outs him and gives him his acceptance. Jesse knows his best friend will keep his secret and trusts him with his life.

And then, tragedy strikes

and do I crumble……

and then the healing begins, and love starts to flow, and my heart just bursts

and I am left with one of the biggest smiles and fullest of hearts

This writing was exceptional, it was the perfect pace, and the development of this story was right on. I absolutely 100% recommend this to you if you love a m/m story!!
