Think you know what it's like being a baller's girl?
You don't.
My fairy tale is upside down.
A happily never after.
I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud.
I was a fool, and his love - fool's gold.

Now there's a new player in the game, August West.
One of the NBA's brightest stars.
Fine. Forbidden.
He wants me. I want him.
But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won't let me go.

“The heart speaks in whispers”
-Corinne Bailey Rae

Wow! Long Shot actually, literally and irrevocably blew me away. I was desperate to get my hands on this story after reading the very intriguing synopsis which whet my appetite with forbidden love. I’m a massive sucker of forbidden love stories and to be honest, it’s probably my favorite trope. I love the whole premise of falling in love with someone you’re not meant to; being whole heartedly consumed with emotions and desires towards someone who is off limits, what the heart wants the head may not. This is actually my first book by Kennedy Ryan and I have heard so many amazing things about her stories that I just had to dive in to it head first and I’m so glad I did.

August and Iris’s story is one I will never forget for as long as I live; it was raw, honest, heartbreaking and so powerful beyond any words I could possibly express. Long Shot is unlike anything I have ever read before and I thank Kennedy Ryan from the bottom of my heart for bringing something so profound and poignant into my life.

“Your body is yours. Yours to keep and yours to share.”

August and Iris were written in the stars. Destined to meet and destined to be together. From their very first meeting there is a strong desire, longing and attraction towards each other, it was palpable, it was intense and it had my heart racing.

Long Shot is an epic love story spanning many years and the endless possibilities of what could be. Iris is a strong and inspiring heroine and my heart literally broke for her, but her inner strength and determination managed to pull me through and heal my own heart that was shattered whilst reading this. August is the perfect hero for Iris, strong, sincere, patient and caring. They are the perfect couple and are meant to be. Together they are pure love personified.

If there is one book I urge readers to pick up this year it is this one. Such an important story to tell and one I know readers alike will empathise with and understand. A story with raw honesty and truth, but also one that holds so much hope, inspiration, bravery and unapologetic love.

“There’s passion, desire in his eyes, but also rampant emotion. And I realize I’m not just sharing myself with him. He wants to share himself with me, too, and my mind eases. Any leftover doubts and residual fears fade.”

Kennedy Ryan has poetically crafted a story that will stay with me forever. Her beautiful, thoughtful and gut-wrenching words are why I love to read and Iris and Augusts’ journey is a must read. A definite favorite of mine……I think ever.
