“Birthday wishes don’t always come true, so I don’t waste a chance when I blow out a candle.”
Penelope Douglas is right up there as one of those one click authors for me. Chances are, if I’ve read one her stories then it has utterly consumed me and I’ve loved every minute of it. As good as her past books have been, Birthday Girl is my favorite book of hers thus far. It really knocked me off my feet, captivated me and I became addicted almost instantly by Penelope’s signature flawless storytelling that she is known so well for; the feels and emotions this story evoked from me were simply breathtaking. I have read a lot of forbidden love stories in my time, but I can assure none are quite like Birthday Girl.
I am huge sucker of forbidden romances; I love the whole premise of something that is so wrong could be oh so right at the same time, and the inner struggles the characters have to deal with whilst giving into their hearts desires. Jordan and Pike have taken my love of the forbidden and turned it into pure perfection.
Jordan is a strong, self-assured young lady who is never afraid of hard work and wise beyond her nineteen years. Pike is just shy of 20 years older than Jordan and such an amazing, swoon worthy hero. I just loved everything there was to know about this man. He was everything I had hoped he would be and so much more.
“Turns out my dream girl belongs to the one person it would kill me to hurt.”
The sexual tension and chemistry between Jordan and Pike pretty much sizzled right off the pages, and I loved the whole anticipation of these two forbidden lovers finally giving into their desires, even when they knew they shouldn’t. The angst literally kept me on the edge of my seat and glued to the pages wanting, no needing to know what was going to happen next.
Birthday Girl is a must read for all forbidden romance lovers and those who enjoy their taboo stories. I know without a shadow of a doubt that this is one story I will never forget. I could not recommend it enough because Jordan and Pike’s journey was written to be shared with the world.
