I was a simple farm girl living in the magical land, Alyria, where men ruled and women only existed.

Call me sheltered. Call me naive. I was probably both. I never expected to be the key to Alyria's destruction.

The journey I was on wasn't only one to save me. But one where I had a lot of learning to do. With men. With magic. And with myself.

But I wasn't alone. I had an escort. One I wasn't so sure about. But one I couldn't afford to lose and one I wasn't so sure I could even leave.

I had many hopes. But the most important one was that my name wouldn't become my fate.

WARNING: This novel contains blood, violence, profanity, and some sexual content.
It does end on a cliffhanger.

Nancy’s review

Okay, I’m going to be completely honest here and say that I had my doubts on this one, simply because I don’t usually read anything that is paranormal or fantasy. It hasn’t been my cup of tea in the past, but I decided to take a chance on this one. And HOLY. HELL. I’m glad I did because from the first couples of pages I was fully entranced.

“I was a farm girl from Alger, and I was supposedly a tool for the destruction of Alyria.”

Calamity is someone special and she doesn’t even know it. Her life is at risk and she must leave her home. Now on the run for her life she tries her best to survive out in the world she knows nothing about. Knowing she can’t do it all alone, Calamity hires an escort to help her get to her destination. And his name is Weston.

Weston is such an enigma, yet I couldn’t help but be very intrigued by his character. I really wished we could’ve gotten his POV just so I could know what he was thinking and feeling. He doesn’t talk much and isn’t very friendly. Weston doesn’t make it a secret that he’s a very dangerous man, but it’s obvious there’s more time him. He’s basically an anti-hero that you’ll hate to love.

“Don’t ever forget what happened yesterday. Don’t feel a false sense of security around me. I’m not a knight in shining armor. Don’t pretend I am.”

I admired Calamity’s strength. She had this strong front and refused to show any weakness. There were times where she could very vulnerable and I really felt for her. It isn’t easy being thrown out into a world you don’t know much about with a stranger to help you on the way.

Calamity and Weston have some chemistry going on, even though Weston tries to act indifferent. But it’s there and it’s noticeable. I’m just ready for these two to get together pronto!

The ending left me shocked as hell. I mean, of course I knew there was a cliffhanger, but I didn’t think it would be that intense. It was all going good and then BAM; shit hit the fan! I’m seriously excited for the next one. I hope Danielle is a quick writer because I need answers.
