No, read in order

So,hypothetical scenario. An alien species comes to earth, but we share no common language. We can only communicate through pictures and sounds. At first, they see our art, hear our music, gaze upon our sacred lands and they’re dazzled by the beauty. But then, as they explore deeper, they see all the stuff we’d prefer to hide; the pain, the cruelty, the pointless wars.

If you were one of the aliens, would you let us live or wipe us out?

Heavy question, I know, but I didn’t always think this way. Life used to be simple. I was a typical city girl with small dreams that were big enough for her. Then I met Dylan O’Dea. He changed how I saw the world, opened my eyes.

For him, the sky was always falling. I guess that was why he achieved so many great things. The constant fear of catastrophe was an excellent motivator. It’s kind of poetic that he came back to me 16 minutes and 59 seconds into Beethoven’s Symphony no. 7.

Dylan showed me the crack in everything. How our world is a contradiction of beauty and ugliness. How we choose to ignore the awful and gloss over it with the palatable. How you need just a tiny drop of something unsavoury to create every great scent.

Pretty deep for a pair of teenagers living in a block of council flats in inner city Dublin, right? Probably. But that wouldn’t always be our lot. We’d part ways, cross oceans and come together again. Dylan would create perfumes adored by women across the globe and I would be the one who first showed him the magic of flowers.

My name is Evelyn Flynn and I’m going to tell you about the cracks.

Jenny’s Review

I don’t ugly cry over books too often. Nope. But holy shit, this book tore me up.

Every once in awhile real life rears it ugly head and makes it known that, in fact, we are not in control of our paths. Life can be ugly, it can be down right awful, but in real life, we pick up and move on. Right???This book completely takes hold of you and brings you along a path of building and losing that once in a lifetime love. Dylan & Evelyn find themselves embracing their love for one another. They live in the same apartment complex in a low income family area. Dylan, striving to be something big, he’s smart, he’s so beautiful, he’s kind, he is a boy willing to do anything for his girl, and he is building a life for himself so he can get him & Ev out of their current living situation. He wants them both to have so much more in life.

Evelyn has experienced a lot of loss in her young years. Having her mom walk away from her, she’s 17 and living with her aunt that she looks up to and adores beyond words. She is full of optimism, she sees the good in almost everything. Always giving the benefit of a doubt to even those who don’t deserve it. She has her best friend Sam at her side, and now she has the man she has given her heart to. She has it all until she loses everything.Tragedy strikes and it strikes by taking away almost everything in Ev’s life. Without giving away what happens and how, grab a box of Kleenex and read this one. And then make sure to have Book 2 on order. I can not wait to find out what happens next in Ev’s life. I have a feeling the next journey is gonna be even a bigger ride then this one
